WHAT IS SCAMS?

Established in 2024 by Alex O’Connell and Justin J. Moore as a way to organize their creative, community-based, and professional endeavors, S.C.A.M.S. is a swamp-based analog/digital hybrid recording studio, record label, event organizer, AV company, and creative services provider in Tallahassee, FL.

The mission is to run an ethical and community-minded business that prioritizes connection, equal opportunities, and a DIY ethos executed with professionalism. S.C.A.M.S. has established itself in the North Florida region as one of the go-to groups for independent touring artists to organize Tallahassee tour stops. The North Florida region is rich with world-class artists and Tallahassee specifically has a storied history of an art scene that, despite the challenges faced in the capital city, manages to continue to push boundaries and cultivate a community of hard-working individuals. S.C.A.M.S. is a piece in that rich tapestry now and aims to be a supportive pillar that "the scene" here and beyond can rely on.

S.C.A.M.S. partners with several local/regional production companies to offer high quality, full-scale production services to a wide variety of clientele. From the ambient music show in the tattoo shop to professional festival stages, no project is too big or too small!

In addition to the many standalone events that S.C.A.M.S. helps organize for local & touring artists year round, they also curate 3 distinct community forward events.

  1. Free Form Night: an experimental open mic style monthly event series that highlights a featured artist/group followed by a couple hours of “open improv”. Anyone is welcomed to sign up & all styles, genres and forms are welcomed. Individuals can decide to perform solo, with a predetermined group or be randomly organized into pairs/groups. Improv is highly encouraged but not relegated to any one definition of the term.

  2. Noise Feast: an annual experimental art, music and film festival that takes place the weekend before Thanksgiving. The core idea behind Noise Feast is that it is a continuous experience. The first two years were 24 hours of non-stop performances with no acts overlapping. The third year bumped things to 36 hours. The ultimate goal is to go a full continuous 72 hours of non stop performances with no overlap. Noise Feast heavily features local & regional artists but often attracts out of town artists too. The noise/experimental/free improv community feels like a big family and Noise Feast is intended to be a gathering of that family.

  3. Tallahassee Arts Science Theater Experience: T.A.S.T.E. is a non-profit organization that hosts an annual arts & culture donation-based festival concept in Tallahassee, FL in the month of March. T.A.S.T.E. aims to be a large scale regional festival in North Florida. The emphasis is on linear programming, education, community discussion and creating something with the community that scales without relying on typical festival business models.
